Additional Details

The first work by comic illustrator George Cruikshank's nephew, and in a similar style. Smith emigrates to an unspecified wilderness (California? British Columbia? Australia?) and is faced with ravenous beasts, harsh weather, and angry natives. All is well by the final panel, though, in which our aged protagonist sits on a porch viewing a whole town full of businesses operated by his progeny.
