Additional Details

In the 1940s and 1950s, high-end nightclubs would often employ photographers to shoot tables full of customers, and then sell the photos to them in custom mats as a nice memento of a night out. Offered here are a variety of these photos, showing a variety of Black clubgoers, who are probably having more fun than you are right now, and dressed better too . . . unless you are reading this catalogue at a wedding or a society ball.

From New York are shots from Latin Quarter; Cafe Zanzibar (2); Smalls Paradise (2), Basin Street (2); Club Baron (2), and Palm Cafe. From Pennsylvania are Bill Green's in Pittsburgh; Vogue Terrace in Pittsburgh; Shangri-La Chinese-American Restaurant in Philadelphia (showing 3 Black servicemen and their dates); Club Belvedere in McKeesport; and Holiday House in Monroeville (2, one of them signed by Monroe Powell of the Platters in 1972). Other miscellaneous points include Club DeLisa in Chicago (2); the Flame Show Bar in Detroit; Paradise Club in Atlantic City, NJ; Club Bali in Washington; Market Inn Social Club in Richmond; and a national Elks convention in Los Angeles, 1956. 5 others are similar productions, but not issued by specific clubs.
