Additional Details

Major James Burton Pond (1838-1903) acquired the Lyceum Theatre Lecture Bureau in 1874 and built it into one of the largest speaker bureaus in the country. His son James Jr. (1889-1961) took over the Pond Lyceum Bureau after his death. This small portion of the agency's client files includes extensive correspondence with speakers such as Arctic explorer Gunnar Horn, travel writer Harry Franck, and theologian John B. Watson (a.k.a. Ian McLaren). Files of publicity photographs include author Lion Feuchtwanger and Corinne Roosevelt Robinson (sister of President Theodore Roosevelt). An inventory is available upon request.
