Additional Details

The Smart Set Company (a.k.a. the Big Colored Comedy Co.) was founded circa 1902, with an all-Black cast of 50 led by Sherman Dudley bringing comedy and music to a national audience. This brochure features 5 large photographs of the cast, along with promotional quotes following a successful stint in New York. We are promised "the most gorgeous scenic production of modern times" and "the handsomest show girls and chorus in the world." The cover illustration was also used to promote shows in newspaper advertisements in 1908, such as the St. Joseph Daily Press of 5 December 1908.
