Additional Details

Juanita Moore (1915-2013) had roles in dozens of films stretching from 1939 to 2000, and was nominated for an Academy Award in 1959 as a supporting actress in "Imitation of Life"--only the fifth Black actor to be nominated in any category. She was president of Cambridge Players, Inc., whose stated goal was to "bring much needed professional theater into our black community."

This small selection from her personal papers includes an 8 x 10 promotional headshot of Moore with negative; a promotional still of Moore in the 1952 film "Lydia Bailey"; a heavily annotated photocopied page from James Baldwin's play "The Amen Corner," which Moore helped bring to the stage in 1965 with the Cambridge Players and in which she played Sister Boxer; drafts of 3 letters she sent as Cambridge Players president in 1986; one letter she received with Cambridge Players in 1985; and the elaborate program from her 2014 memorial service. Also included is a packet of notes from a 1976 performance in Shreveport, LA by 23 Black actresses including Moore to benefit the Kwanza Foundation and local charities. Included are a schedule for participants, a manuscript list of press contacts, and a certificate of thanks issued to Moore by the city of Shreveport.

With--a possibly unrelated group of approximately 180 publicity photographs and snapshots from the NAACP Image Awards and an NAACP job fair, circa 1995-2001.
