Additional Details

Etta Moten Barnett (1901-2004) was a star actress and singer of the 1930s and 1940s, based in Chicago. 10 of these photographs are glamour portraits (including one duplicate), signed in the negative by Bloom of Chicago, Bruno of Hollywood (of New York), and the Maurice Seymour studio of Chicago. 4 are signed to family members: "My love to Grandma, Etta G.," "Love to the family, Etta G.," "Love Cousin Etta 12/39," and "Love to my Sue, Mother 1940." 4 additional photos are from later in Moten's life, including one by famed Harlem photographer Austin Hansen from circa 1970 showing her at a dinner, possibly with Duke Ellington.
