(ENTERTAINMENT--THEATER.) Poster for a performance of "Charles Gordone's No Place to Be Somebody" Illustrated poster, 22 x 14 inches, in red and black on card stock; minimal wear. New York: Artcraft Litho, [1969]

Additional Details

Charles Gordone described his play as a story of "country folk who had migrated to the big city, seeking the urban myth of success, only to find disappointment, despair, and death." It earned a Pulitzer Prize--the first ever awarded for an off-Broadway production, and the first to a Black playwright. This poster is from the play's 248-show run at the New York Shakespeare Festival's Public Theater, which started in May 1969 after a short premiere showcase.
