(ENTERTAINMENT--THEATER.) The East . . . Presents Imamu Amiri Baraka's Slave Ship. Poster, 11 x 8 1/4 inches; folds, minor foxing. Brooklyn, NY, 29 March [1974?]

Additional Details

Poster for a 1974 Brooklyn production of Amiri Baraka's play "Slave Ship" directed by Yusef Iman. The poster design, including an illustration of a chained man, was done by "BNJN" (Benjamin Caldwell), who also produced a Malcolm X poster for Africa Prints Inc. in 1973. The original owner noted: "The performance took place during March of, I believe, 1973 (or possibly 1974). I, along with a dear friend, took the train from Jamaica, Queens to Brooklyn and Claver Place for a performance. (And what a performance it was.) I was able to obtain the poster that night at The East. . . . The set, the lighting, the sound were fantastic, the acting was very good, the spirit within was liberating." None others traced at auction or on OCLC.
