Ethel Lilian Voynich was a novelist and musician, the daughter of the famous mathematician George Boole. In 1893 she married Wilfrid Michael Voynich, a revolutionary and an antiquarian bookseller. She is best known for her novel, The Gadfly, based on the life of British secret agent Sidney Reilly.
