In 1865, Livingstone undertook his final expedition into Africa, financed in part by a grant from the Royal Geographical Society. His object was to explore the area inland from Zanzibar in East Africa, traveling there by way of Mumbai, where, in October of 1865, Livingston delivered a lecture to help raise additional funds for the expedition.
