Additional Details

The Iron Horse was a seminal Western movie directed by John Ford depicting the construction of the transcontinental railroad. These candid snapshots were taken by an unknown photographer during the shooting of the railroad scenes, either in California or Nevada. Several show the actor Chief White Spear and other supporting actors; director Ford appears in the background of one shot. The locomotive is, of course, prominently featured. with--16 other similarly sized photographs, most of them apparently from the same photographer's western trip.
