Dodd was the lawyer for John D. Rockefeller who organized Standard Oil as one of the first holding companies. His writings are important sources on corporate law, the trust controversy, and the early history of the oil industry. This lot includes: Combinations: Their Uses and Abuses, with a History of the Standard Oil Trust. New York, 1888 Trusts: An Address. Np, 1889 Aggregated Capital. New York, 1893 Shall All Business Co-operation Be Rendered Criminal? . . . A Statement of Pending Legislation and its Consequences. New York, undated Memoirs of S.C.T. Dodd Written for His Children and Friends. New York, 1907. See Swanson, A Century of Oil and Gas in Books, page 161, which discusses three of these works and calls Dodd "a lawyer of rare ability and integrity."
