Additional Details

The 1876 presidential election, much like the 2000 election, was bogged down by a dispute over Floridian electoral votes. These documents are from the papers of Edward Louden Paris, an attorney for losing Democratic candidate Samuel Tilden. Tilden had more popular votes that Rutherford B. Hayes, but disputed electoral votes in Florida and two other states gave Hayes the election. This archive includes official signed copies of key Florida court and executive decisions, as well as printed works which do not appear in WorldCat, or appear only in microfilm copies.
