Additional Details

This group relates mostly to two different whiskey brands: Old Taylor produced by E.H. Taylor & Sons of Frankfort, KY, and Old Overholt produced by A. Overholt & Co. of Pittsburgh, PA. Both brands were later bought by the National Distillers Products Corporation; a lone 1944 letter in the collection is addressed to them. Both Old Taylor and Old Overholt are still produced today. Most of the collection consists of ephemera: labels, advertising cards, souvenir picture books, colorfully engraved stationery, brochures, certificates, freight tags, postcards, and more. A set of 35 linen-backed cards appears to date from the National Distillers period: each has a photograph of a different liquor bottle on one side, with an original label mounted to the verso. 15 liquor-trade pamphlets and guide books are included, many featuring prominent advertisements from the brands. A small file of Taylor's correspondence includes letters on a 1916 copyright infringement suit; several items are marked for use as exhibits in the suit.
