with a double fore-edge painting of Esher Place, Surrey on one side and a view of the first, pre-1842 British Museum, Russell Street on the other (also known as Montagu House). The tower of Esher Place, originally built by William Waynflete, still stands, though here it still appears as a massive castle with crenellated walls and subsidiary dwellings. The promising Romantic poet White died of consumption while studying at Cambridge. He had been admired by Byron, among others, and the volume concludes with tributes to him by fellow poets.
