Additional Details

The first African-American Masonic lodge in Georgia was the Eureka lodge, founded in June of 1866. Noted black Mason Lewis Hayden traveled through the deep South in 1865 in order to encourage enrollment in the Masonic order. His campaign was so successful that a second Georgian lodge, the Hilton was formed in September of the same year. OCLC does not locate any copies of this or any other copy of the Constitution of the lodge.
