Additional Details

The quadruple-screw ship began her life in the North German Lloyd fleet as the "Europa." She was given to France after the war. Immediate plans for her make-over were thwarted when she broke loose of her moorings in Le Havre during a storm and rammed the sunken hull of the former "Paris." She made her maiden voyage as the "Liberté" in August 1950. She received new funnels in 1954. In late 1961 she was sold to scrappers.
