Additional Details

Though work began on the quadruple-screw vessel in 1913, the war delayed its completion. Her maiden voyage was taken in 1921. She was gutted by fire and sank at Le Havre in 1939. Her hull remained where it sank for years to come. The French Line Liberté (ex-"Europa" of NGL), broke loose from its moorings during a storm and crashed into the sunken hull of the "Paris," causing extreme damage to the "Liberté" and delaying that ship's return to passenger service.
