Additional Details

Work began on the quadruple-screw vessel in 1913, but the war delayed its completion. She did not have her maiden voyage until 1921. While at Le Havre in April 1939 she was gutted by fire and sank. Her hull remained there for years and not without causing headaches of its own. The Liberté (ex-Europa of NGL), broke loose of its moorings during a storm and was thrown against the sunken hull of the "Paris," causing extensive damage to the "Liberté" and delaying the ship's re-entry into passenger service.
