Additional Details

Torres (1891-1966) was a North African born "leftist" lawyer, who in his long career represented, among others, Emma Goldman and Sholom Schwartzbard. He was also a deputy in the Leon Blum government of 1938 and 1939. These papers have an interesting history. Torres' files were removed from his office by the Nazis when they occupied Paris. They ended up in the hands of the Russian state archives and were finally released and returned to his family in 1992. Included in the lot are letters, postcards, and notes on calling cards from Francis Carco (5), Blaise Cendrars, Pierre Cot (4), Andre Maurois, Andre Wurmser, Georges Suarez, Maurice Wanecq, Nicolas Titulesco, Horace de Carbuccia (3), Paul Reboux, Pierre La Maziere, Jean Zay, Pierre Benoit (3), and many others.
