Additional Details

Guiteau (1841-1882) was a corrupt lawyer and deranged miscreant who assassinated President James Garfield. He claimed divine inspiration and was convinced he would be acquited, after which he planned to run for the presidency. He was convicted in January 1882 and hanged on June 30th the same year.
