first and only edition. Arnold J. Ford (1877-1935), rabbi, black nationalist and emigrationist, was born in Bridgetown, Barbados. Educated as a musician, Ford was proficient on a number of instruments as well as a talented composer and arranger. Arriving in Harlem in 1910, Ford became a member of the Clef Club Orchestra then under the direction of James Reese Europe. In 1917, Marcus Garvey founded the New York chapter of the United Negro Improvement Association with Arnold Ford as its musical director. Ford's hymn "Ethiopia" became the "Universal Ethiopian Anthem," which the UNIA constitution required be sung at every gathering. rare. no copy located by oclc.
