Additional Details

The author of this pamphlet was the editor of Garvey's "Negro World" newspaper. Following Garvey's arrest and subsequent deportation, many American Negroes left the U.N.I.A. The combination of Garvey's brush with the Federal government and his meeting with Klan leaders turned many blacks off. This pamphlet came out at the beginning the Great Depression. Almost five years had passed since Garvey's deportation, and Mudgal saw an opportunity to bring new blood into the U.N.I.A. This pamphlet provides both a short biography of Garvey as well as an abbreviated presentation of the aims of the U.N.I.A.
