(GARVEY, MARCUS.) McGuire, George Alexander. Universal Negro Catechism: A Course of Instruction in Religious and Historical Knowledge. 36 pages. 12mo, original blue printed wrappers, moderate wear; minimal wear to contents. [New York]: Universal Negro Improvement Association, 1921

Additional Details

A detailed tutorial for members of the U.N.I.A. in question-and-answer form. Its four sections cover "Religious Knowledge" (Garvey was a devout Christian), "Historical Knowledge," "The Constitution and Laws of the U.N.I.A.," and the "Declaration of Independence" which had been proclaimed by Garvey at the International Negro Convention in 1920.
The present example has a different cover and a completely different setting of type from the one offered previously at Swann, and from the Emory University example. The wrapper is on blue card stock rather than gray-green, and the wrapper title is in two lines rather than three. The page numbers here are given parentheses, and the table of contents on the first page has a typo with "N.N.I.A." instead of "U.N.I.A." We do not know which edition came first. 4 copies in OCLC (editions unknown).
