Additional Details

The signer of this certificate, vice-president Orlando M. Thompson, was one of Garvey's right hand men, and an indicted co-conspirator in the federal case brought against Garvey and the Black Star Line. In all, Elie Garcia, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Orlando Thompson, and George Tobias were accused of "using the United States Post Office to defraud." The government's case was so thin that Garvey was the only one of the four convicted (on only one count) and he had less to do with the alleged crime than all the rest.
