Group of 60 photographs of filling stations in Palestine, including pumps, stations, occasional figures, many cars, and the landscape beyond. Each location has been identified and depicts the signage and logos of the company Sonol. Silver prints, 4 3/4x6 3/4 inches (12.1x17.1 cm.), and slightly smaller, 21 with a notation, in white ink, in Hebrew, on recto, and most with a notation, in pencil, in Hebrew or in English, on verso. Circa 1945

This striking collection is a vernacular and conceptual masterwork, rendering the banality of the everyday through repetition. The project was completed long before Edward Ruscha was inspired to render another series of gas stations in the western United States.
