Additional Details

Photograph of the late comedian and activist Dick Gregory (1932-2017) with former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. 20 x 16 inches; laid down on heavy board, taped into mat on verso, light wear to image surface. Gregory appeared at a Carnegie Hall benefit show in honor of Roosevelt and met her backstage, just a few months before her death. This photograph was published in the 26 July 1962 issue of Jet Magazine. Pair of promotional photographs for Gregory's 1964 book "Nigger: An Autobiography." Each 14 x 11 inches, minor wear. One shows a nervous Gregory in front of a leering sheriff, two Confederates, and a Klansman. In the other, Gregory is wearing prison garb and being pistol-whipped by a sheriff, while pointing to a stack of his recently published books.
