Additional Details

Joseph-Anténor Firmin (1850-1911) was a Haitian politician and academic, generally considered to be the first anthropologist of African descent; he helped launch the Pan-African movement. In this book, he predicted that the American president Theodore Roosevelt would invade Haiti. He was not precisely correct, but still perceptive; the twenty-year American occupation of Haiti did not begin until 1915. Cundall, West Indies 579.
