Additional Details

A rare, complete run [there was no exhibit catalogue for 1932] of these booklets representing a virtual who's who of major African-American artists. Founded by real-estate magnate William E. Harmon (1862-1928). The Foundation was set up in 1922 to recognize and reward achievement by African-Americans in art, literature, technology, and science. An award of $400.00 was given to the winners in each category. In 1928 the first exhibit of art was mounted. There were six subsequent exhibits, some of them traveling around the country.
