The text of a letter from ABCFM headquarters by the ship California on 2 December 1841. Appended is the committee's letter to President Tyler regarding the recent incident with the French frigate L'Artémise (see lot 154). "From 1831 through 1854 letters . . . addressed to members of the mission as a body were, upon receipt in Honolulu, printed there for private distribution. . . . 50 to 60 copies were usually printed"--Forbes 771-19. We have not traced any of the ABCFM "General Letters" at auction.
