Additional Details

An important missionary publication issued mainly for seamen, containing both local and shipping news in addition to its religious content. In the second volume, the title changes to "The Friend, of Temperance and Seamen." It was later published simply as "the Friend" for more than a hundred years. Three notable illustrations are included in this volume: "Seaman's Chapel, Honolulu" (16 September 1843); "View of the Town and Harbor of Honolulu" (1 January 1844); and "Plan of Honolulu Harbor" (4 September 1844).
