letter b of only 15 special copies signed by chandler and lewis, with an additional etching signed by chandler laid in. From a total edition of 115. The text commemorates the sesquicentennial of the murder in 1837 of the Abolitionist minister and printer Elijah Parish Lovejoy by a mob that gathered in Alton, Illinois to destroy his press on which anti-slavery tracts were printed. Chandler reproduced excerpts from Lovejoy's Memoirs, a scarce book published in 1838, the year af the author's death.
