Additional Details

Construction on the tunnel, designed by engineer Clifford M. Holland, began in 1920, just a year before this report. At the time of its opening in 1927, it was the longest underwater tunnel in the world. Much of this report concerns the hazards of gases in the tunnel from car exhaust.
