Mayer's Views appeared in various editions and with differing plate counts. Both Palestine and Ottoman Empire were issued in editions with far fewer plates than the First Editions. The Ottomon Empire volume in the present case may be one of the abbreviated issues. However, the Palestine volume is the 1804 edition originally containing 24 plates (see Abbey Travel 369). One plate is partially excised and others are clearly missing from this volume.
