HOUDINI CURIOSITY (HOUDINI, HARRY.) Small camera-ready advertising mat to be used for newspaper or magazine advertising, showing Houdini doing the needle trick and escaping from the water torture cell, 10 1/2x8 inches; with pen-and-ink alterations clarifying the various vignettes; Signed Elcock in the lower right. Np, 1913

Additional Details

Appears to be the final camera ready state of the piece. The advertising mat is a silver print photograph of a tightly constructed series of vignettes by Elcock. Alterations have been added to the photograph to make better sense of the vignettes. In this state, it would once again have been photographed and then would be ready to be used as advertising. A true Houdini curiosity. See lot 52 where this image is used in actual advertising.<
