Additional Details

Henry Hope Crealock left his mark as a British soldier, artist and author during the Victorian empire. His many military accomplishments include participation in the Second Opium War and the Anglo–Zulu War of 1879. He retired from service in 1884 having earned the rank of Lieutenant General. During his life and travels he was continually accompanied by his sketchbook. His drawings reproduced here illustrate an expediton in pursuit of prize stags throughout the Scottish highlands together with the chief of the Clan Cameron Lochiel, several companions, and their essential dogs. This visual story suggests they undoubtedly had an eventful and successful hunt.
