Additional Details

first edition of this sensational account of the nat turner rebellion. The lengthy title continues "Communicated by those who were eye witnesses of the bloody scene, and confirmed by the confessions of the Blacks while under Sentence of Death." The noted Americana dealer Charles Heartman offered a copy of this work in his enormous 1848 catalogue of African Americana, noting that "Two points are noticeable. Although many white women were killed, no rape was attempted. From two weeks to a month elapsed before trial, and execution took place and no lynchings in the meantime." Sabin, 101444; not in Work.
