first edition. Perhaps the earliest manifestation of the Bush family's long and complex relationship with the Muslim world. Rev. George Bush (1796-1859) was a professor of religion at New York University; he was also first cousin of George H.W. Bush's great-great-grandfather. This was the first American biography of Muhammad. Though not entirely unsympathetic, it describes the prophet as an impostor, and his religion as a heresy. The book caused some controversy in Egypt when reissued in 2004.
