Louis Farrakhan was born Louis Eugene Walcott in the Bronx, New York in 1933 to Sarah Mae Manning, a native of St Kitts. He displayed prodigious musical talent early on and though briefly attending college in North Carolina, spent most of his early life performing as a calypso singer and dancer. In 1955, while touring in Chicago, Louis attended a talk given by Elijah Muhammad, whose message of black nationalism immediately appealed to him, and the rest, as the saying goes, is history. The cover of this pamphlet shows Farrakhan kneeling and singing his own composition "Look at My Chains."
