Additional Details

The Island was the mouthpiece of a group of artists self-named "The Islanders" after Shakespeare's Tempest, who "believe in the power and significance of imagination" and for whom "the poetic imagination as a phenomenon overshadows in importance the technical efficiency displayed in producing one of those numerous clichés which the public is taught, and is accustomed, to take for Art" [from Volume 1]. The Little Magazine, page 300.<
