". . . The Committee will be informed of all details, negotiations, conversations and demarches which are taking, or about to take, place; will have all relevant documents placed before it and will be given every facility to become acquainted with all the details of our political work . . . "
Weizmann, Sokolow, and a few other members of the Committee, debated and revised drafts of the Zionist declaration through early July 1917, before submitting a version to British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour on July 18. On November 2, Balfour sent a letter containing the approved formulation of the declaration, the Balfour Declaration of 1917, demonstrating Britain's support of establishing Palestine as a homeland for the Jewish people.
