The cane is accompanied by numerous documents certifiying its authenticity, including a letter from Gary Hendershott, who "acquired this [the cane] when I purchased the Frank James family papers," a notarized document signed by Margaret Duckworth Bade, niece of Mae Duckworth James, who notes: "I personally know this cane to have been the property of Frank James, that he owned for several years and was later used by his son Robert James;" and, a Typed Letter Signed by Charles Hamilton, the noted authority on the James brothers.<
