Relief etchings with pochoir by Claire Van Vliet, includes triple fold-out leaves (pages 7-16). Folio, original pictorial cloth with vellum spine containing windows exposing binding threads; preserved in pictorial clamshell box; both designed by Jim Bicknell; prospectus and two illustrated specimen pages laid in. Presentation copy, warmly inscribed by Van Vliet to Lubna and David [Culbert], number 81 of 150 copies, signed by the author and author on the limitation. Also includes two proof sheets ("Mermaid and Her Dawn of Release" and "Serpent") bearing presentation inscriptions as above, dated 1988, laid in. A fine copy of one of the most impressive modern American private press books and the 75th publication of the Janus Press. Finney's novel was the basis for the 1964 film, The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, directed by pioneering animator George Pal. (Newark), VT, 1984
