The dynamic album depicts streets and gardens in Yokohama, Tokyo, Nikko, Yumoto, and Kyoto, as well as village street scenes, temples, lakes, waterfalls, occupational scenes, and more. Hand-colored albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 7½x9½ inches (19.1x24.1 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso with the original interleafing tissue, most with captions in the negative, scattered foxing. Oblong 4to, the red lacquer front cover with elaborate gilt and painted elements and ivory inlay depicting a figure in a cart being pulled by another, the rear with a floral motif; the backstrip refurbished; all edges gilt. 1890s
