The diverse album depicts streets and gardens in Yokohama, scenes from Tokyo and Kyoto, village street scenes, cherry blossom studies, temples, lakes, tea houses in mountainous landscapes, geishas, occupational scenes, clothing studies, and more. Hand-colored albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 8x10½ inches (20.3x26.7 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso, each with captions in the negative or on a small paper label. Oblong 4to, the black lacquer front cover with elaborate gilt and painted elements and inlay depicting a bird, the rear also with a gilt bird motif; the backstrip perished and front cover detached; all edges gilt. 1890s
