(JAPAN) A lovely Japanese album with 50 hand-colored photographs depicting geishas, lush landscapes, busy streets, and flowering gardens. The diverse album depicts streets and gardens in Yokohama, scenes from Tokyo, village street scenes, cherry blossom studies, temples, lakes, tea houses in mountainous landscapes, wrestlers, geishas, occupational scenes, clothing studies, and more. Hand-colored albumen prints, the images measuring approximately 8x10 1/2 inches (20.3x26.7 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto/verso, all but 6 with captions in the negative; each separated by original tissue guards. Oblong 4to, the red lacquer front cover with elaborate gilt and painted elements and ivory inlay, depicting a figure being pulled in a hand-drawn cart and the rear with a fauna motif; the backstrip perished and front cover detached; all edges gilt. 1890s
