An elegant album with 50 hand-colored photographs, including the Great Gate in Nikko, the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, a chrysanthemum show, an iris garden, temples, tea houses, and several occupational scenes of geishas; much of the color is brilliant, and exquisetly applied. Hand-colored albumen prints, each approximately 7 7/8x9 3/4 inches (20x24.8 cm.), and the reverse; with the original tissue guards. Oblong folio, the front cover a matte board with applied gold and a picturesque tableau of birds, detached, and the rear cover a shiny black lacquer with a bird gazing at the moon, nearly detached; backstrip perished, but leather pieces laid in along with a list of the plates. 1890s
