Additional Details

Hiroshige did the drawings for these prints between 1842 and 1847. However, the blocks were never cut. The drawings were acquired by Emile Javal of Paris. The Japanese publisher Shotaro Sato received permission from Javal to publish the prints. Sato employed Japan's best cutters and block printers and they used the traditional procedures of the 19th century to make the prints.
