Additional Details

A fascinating work of Japanese craftsmanship, this woodblock map depicts the land and sea routes around Japan from the late Edo Period (1603-1868). The map is largely detailed on the western side of Japan, diminishing toward the east, a common occurence with maps of the period. Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo are clearly represented as major cities while three compass roses, sailing ships and text panels at the left and right add further adornment and allure to this interesting object.
