(JAPAN) Pair of Japanese albums, with a total of 98 hand-colored photographs, including lavish images of landscapes, temples, occupationals, and street scenes. Hand-colored mounted albumen prints, each approximately 8x10 inches (20.3x25.4 cm.), and the reverse; one with letterpress captions affixed to many of the mounts and the other with captions in many of the negatives; many with the original tissue guards. Oblong folios, one with a black lacquer cover with ivory inlay and the other a red lacquer cover with gilt highlights; leather backstrips perished and inexpertly reinforced with tape at the backstrip and hinges; all edges gilt. 1880s
